The newest models of Standard Gage style digital electronic bore gages are manufactured in the USA by Dorsey of Poughkeepsie. The digital indicator used with these gages is made in Japan by Mitutoyo which offers the latest innovations in digital measurement.

These digital bore gages can be zero-set to a master for comparative readings and can also be used for absolute reading by presetting to a master, such as a setting ring. Setting rings are not included and must be purchased separately.

Go/NoGo judgment is performed by setting the upper and lower tolerances.

Up to three sets of master values and Go/NoGo values can be stored in memory.

The minimum hold feature will allow you to rock the gage head through the bore and the display will show the minimum bore size.

The .00005" (1µm) digital indicator makes this both an inch and metric bore gage with SPC (RS-232) output.

Optional cables allow you to download data to spreadsheets, printers, or dedicated analytic software.

Depth extensions

Bore gage depth can be specified when the gage is purchased. The depth extensions are available for bore gage model 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. The depth which these bore gages can reach is called the "A" length and this length is available from 4" to 72".

Be advised that bore gages with added depth extensions will not function properly in the horizontal position. The weight of the long rod will bend the barrel and sluggishness or jamming will result. If you need to use the bore gage in a horizontal position, let us know in advance so we can advise the manufacturer who will make some factory adjustments (allow extra time).

How does the extra long depth of, say, 72" affect accuracy? Exact figures aren't available but the manufacturer states that "a knowledgeable user can obtain great accuracy".

 

Replacement digital indicator ID-C

The manufacturer offers a one-year warranty against defects and malfunction. After that year is up, however, if your digital display acts up you will have no option but to replace the indicator which can be purchased separately. Mitutoyo digital indicators have the added advantage that repairs are usually possible as long as parts are available.

Long Island Indicator Service is an authorized repair service, fully qualified to perform professional repairs on Standard Gage digital electronic bore gages including warranty repairs. Note: the electronic indicator is separately available. If it malfunctions you may want to purchase a replacement (see above).

About the digital indicator

Mitutoyo provides a superior digital indicator with the newest and most sophisticated features available. A few things need to be taken into consideration:

The top lifting cap as well as the contact point on the indicator must only be hand-tightened. Using pliers applies too much torque on the spindle and you can imagine what that does to the movement inside.

Only the manufacturer and authorized repair centers are allowed to open the digital indicator from the dial side. Otherwise, warranties are null and void.

The instrument's accuracy and other specifications are only guaranteed when the instrument is used at 68°F and [the digital indicator] is mounted vertically, clamped by its stem. — manufacturer's notes paraphrased

The digital indicator will only fit inside the housing designed for digital bore gages. This means that you will not be able to exchange your analog indicator for a digital one without also buying a new housing and handle. If this is your intention, please contact us for details.
